If you have certain features on your website that are restricted to people with a username and password, you likely only want those people to access it. One of the worst things that can happen to a webmaster is the loss of their bandwidth due to thieves. Most webmasters are given a limit, or quota, in regards to how much bandwidth they can use.
When someone else links directly to an image or other large file that you host, you lose bandwidth to people who aren’t even visiting your site directly. So, there’s nothing you can do, right? Wrong.
